General Information about Southwestern Fair Commission, Inc.
The Southwestern Fair Commission, Inc., a non-profit corporation, has operated the
Pima County Fairgrounds since the 1970's. This is a commission established by Pima County
to operate the facility for them. Under the agreement, all revenue earned from operations
is put back into the facility in improvements. Over the years, more than two million
dollars of improvements have been made to the facility with proceeds from operations.
The Fairgrounds comprise a 640-acre facility designed for diverse uses. Events include;
the annual Pima County Fair, horse and livestock shows, gun shows, dog shows, RV rallies,
equipment sales, and concerts.
In the interest of increasing revenue and events at the facility, the Southwestern Fair
Commission has begun producing several of the events held at the fairgrounds including
horse shows and concerts. Check the Schedule of Upcoming Events on the Home Page. These
events have allowed us to be in a position to begin looking at other uses of the facility
which could increase the overall use of the property.
One such major revenue and event is the Southwestern International Raceway (SIR) on the
eastern portion of the property. With the Tucson Raceway Park on the southwest corner of
the fairgrounds, the fairgrounds will become known as the premier racing facility in the
Southwest. Racing events planned for Southwest International Raceway will include drag
racing, go kart, moto cross, motorcycle, junior drag racing and other events related to
motorsports. The facility could also be used for motor and tire testing and host race car
drivers' schools.
Also on the Fairgrounds in support of Pima County residents are the "The Southern
Arizona Modelers R/C Flying Club" and the "Tucson Kart Club". Information
concerning these groups are available from the home page of this web site. We look forward
to make many more improvements at the Pima County Fairgrounds over the next few years and
to working closely with the community as we strive to better serve the citizens of Pima
County.
