ALL SMALL STOCK GENERAL RULES APPLY

SPECIFIC RABBIT REQUIREMENTS

EXHIBITOR:

A.      First year project members only, will be able to exhibit one animal in the pet class, provided this is the member's only animal in this project, and this animal does not meet any breed or variety classification or have a known disqualification.

B.       Each exhibitor is limited to twenty (20) entries of rabbits, excluding meat pen, single fryer, education poster or display or advanced project. All substitutions after the ownership deadline must be approved by the Project Coordinator.

C. The Project Coordinator reserves the right to further limit the number of animals exhibited per individual depending on enrollment, space, and cages available.

SPECIFIC RABBIT REQUIREMENTS ANIMAL:

A.      All breeds of rabbits accepted for show by the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) may be exhibited by 4-H/FFA Rabbit exhibitors. All animals must be marked with tattoo in the left ear.

B.       Rabbit exhibits may also be entered in Open Division. (See Open Show Rules/Entering)

C.       All rabbits, with the exception of meat pens, must be a minimum of twelve weeks old at check-in and show maturity of handling the stress of the Fair.

SPECIFIC RABBIT REQUIREMENTS MEAT PEN/FRYER:

A.      Exhibitors in Meat Pen classes are limited to two meat pens and/or two single fryers.

B.       Rabbit Meat Pens will consist of three (3) rabbits, all the same breed and variety. Pen will be disqualified if more than one breed and variety is in the same pen. Age limit will be a minimum of 6 weeks but not over 10 weeks. Weight limit minimum of 3 but not over 5 pounds per rabbit. All rabbits in Meat Pen must have permanent tattoo mark and must be recorded on entry form. Mother of Meat Pen must be owned by the exhibitor prior to kindling.

C.       Rabbit Single Fryer will consist of one (1) live fryer. Age limit will be a fryer, minimum of 6 weeks but not over 10 weeks at check in, weight limit minimum of 3 but not over 5 pounds. Fryer must have permanent tattoo mark and must be recorded on entry form.

D.      Champion and Reserve Champion Meat Pens and Fryers will sell in the Small Stock Auction.

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED

RABBIT GENETICS AND PROJECTS:

A.      Open only to members participating in at least their second or third year of the rabbit project and enrolled with the Pima County Extension

4-H office in the Intermediate Rabbit Project by January 1 of the current year. Advanced members must be in their fourth (4) year or more of project.

B.       Project must be approved by a qualified Advanced Rabbit Project Leader and Project Coordinator prior to entry and a short written explanation of the completed display must accompany the entry form. Approval by the Project Coordinator must be obtained prior to entry deadline. If live animals are included in the exhibit, they may also be entered in the appropriate breed class for rabbit. Total animals that are entered in breed judging may not exceed the limit of twenty (20) animals per exhibitor per project.

C.       Enter project on entry form including description. Record log is due at check-in.

D.      Projects will be displayed in the Barn and must be completed by 10:00am on Friday, April 17, 2009.

SHOWMANSHIP:

A.      There will be showmanship in the rabbit project. The Danish system of judging will be used. Special Awards will be given to outstanding showmanship members.

B.       Showmanship winners from previous years are eligible to compete, if currently enrolled.

C.       Each exhibitor entering must register in showmanship using their own exhibit in the showmanship competition and said exhibit must also be entered in breed judging.

D.      Exhibitors who are to participate in showmanship must register for the contest on their entry form prior to the Fair.

E.       The showmanship contest will be judged only on the exhibitor's ability to show their knowledge in handling, fitting and selecting animals for production and show. The Judge may also ask questions pertaining to the project. See exhibitor dress requirements in general small stock rules. Rabbit Showmanship: Long sleeve shirts required for safety reasons.

JUDGING/SHOW/AWARD:

A.      See exhibitor dress requirements in general small stock rules. Long sleeve shirts required for safety reasons.

B.       All classes will be judged by American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) Standards and the Judge's decision will be final.

C.       Each breed will be judged separately. Where there is no competition, judges may award one ribbon or no ribbon according to merit. The Danish system of ribbons, blue/red/white, will be used. Participation awards will be given for elimination or disqualification entries.

SMALL STOCK AUCTION:

A.      Only blue ribbon animals may be eligible for sale at the Small Stock Auction.

B.       Small Stock Auction Forms for Rabbits and Cavies must be turned in to the Project Coordinators by Sunday April 19, 2009 at 5:00 pm.

C.       See Small Stock Auction Rules for more information.

D.      All small Stock Auction rabbits must return to the Fair between 4:00 and 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2009. Herdsmanship will be the responsibility of the exhibitor.
