PIMA COUNTY FAIR, April 16 – 26, 2009

FREE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS and OPPORTUNITIES

Read and Ride Program -Pima County Fair, and Ray Cammack Shows push for literacy!   Teachers are provided with a form to sign for every THREE books read, plus a summary provided by the student.  For three books read, one ride pass (good for 3 rides) is provided.   There is a limit of one Read and Ride Pass per child.  Read and Ride forms will be mailed to school libraries and emailed upon request to your attention.  Forms will also be available at all Pima County Libraries, beginning March 2009.   For more information, please visit www.PimaCountyFair.com

 

Pima County Fair Field Trip Program - Free to teachers, students and chaperones.   On school letterhead, fax a written request for Student Field Trip Application to Attn:  Field Trips:  762-5005Deadline:  April 1, 2009.

School Field Trip gates open at 9:00 a.m.  The Carnival does not open until 3:00 on weekdays.  Animal barns will be open for field trips and Old Pueblo Hall Educational Exhibits open at 10:00 a.m.  Vendors and exhibits do not open until 12:00 during the week.

 

Pima County Fair Super Student Program - To recognize students, K-12 who go the extra mile by making the Student of the Week/Month, and/or perfect attendance second semester.  The program is also for students who have made behavioral modifications and efforts to improve grades.   Honored students only will receive free admission to the fair, parents and siblings are not included in the promotion.   Requests must come from the School Counselor and be signed by the school Principal.   On school letterhead, fax request for Student Honors Program to Attn:  Super Student Program 762-5005 Deadline:  March 31, 2009.  Admission tickets will be mailed to the school:  Attn:  Principal.

 

Special Needs Day - Tuesday, April 21st - Adaptive Education, Exceptional Education and/or Special Education teachers are given an opportunity for their students to enjoy the fair field trip experience.  Community volunteers donate lunch and limited rides, 11:00 – 1:00 p.m.  Reservations are required with limited space on a first come first served basis.   On school letterhead, fax request for applications and more information to: 762-5005 Attn: Special Needs Program,

Deadline for Registration:  March 17thSpace is extremely limited therefore no exceptions will be made.

Student Performer Program - Students of all ages and skill levels are provided an opportunity to perform before a paying audience at an outdoor venue, with experienced professional sound, light and stage technicians.   School performances will receive mention in 100,000 printed fair programs.  Contact Launa Rabago x 762-9100 x14 to receive a performer application.  If leaving a message, please be certain to include your school fax number.   Deadline for advertising program inclusion, February 14, 2009. 

 

4-H and animal barns - Learn about agriculture and animal husbandry.  For more information, contact Bob Peterson at the 4-H Extension office, 626-5161.

 

Interactive Science Center for Kids – located in Old Pueblo Hall and open during regular building hours.  Includes a physics center, appropriate for ages K – 8th grade.  Open during Old Pueblo Hall hours.

 

Agricultural Center for Kids – located in Old Pueblo Hall.  Appropriate for ages 2 – 10.  Children can pick “produce grown” on the Farm, “milk” a “cow”, and climb on the tractor.  The agriculture center provides children the opportunity to experience agriculture in a fun and educational experience.  Open during Old Pueblo Hall hours.

 

World Vision Experience:  AIDS.  An interactive, walk through exhibit designed to raise awareness about the affects of the international AIDS pandemic on children in developing countries.  The exhibit profiles 4 real children and is inspired by their own, real experiences.  This exhibit has been on display in churches, schools and other venues across the country and is appropriate for ages 10 and up.   The exhibit can be previewed at www.worldvisionexperience.org prior to your field trip.  Located in Pima Hall, noon – 9:00.
