Protect Yourself

To protect yourself, children and other vulnerable groups from harmful pathogens that could cause illness or death, remember to wash your own hands, supervise and assist with children’s handwashing as well as any person requiring assistance, who is under your care.  Use soap and water to create a lather, drying hands on clean paper towels and never on your clothes.  Wash and dry hands after using the bathroom, visiting any animal attractions or animal areas at the fair, before eating or any other hand to mouth activity, including handling pacifiers and baby bottles.  Additionally, hands should be washed after any contact with shoes, strollers or clothing that might have come into contact with animals, their waste, or their bedding.

Be aware: Risks associated with animal contact that could cause illness or death is highest among people of certain age groups and health conditions, especially small children, pregnant women, the elderly and individuals with weakened immune systems.
