The Southwestern Fair Commission Inc. has hosted and produced equestrian events for over 25 years at the Pima County Fairgrounds. There are 23 annual equestrian events, in various disciplines including both Western and English saddle. Events range in length from a single day to 6 weeks of competition. Purses and prizes differ from each event and depend upon affiliation and promoter. Events and competitions include Hunter/Jumper, Arabian, Reigning horse, Dressage, Rodeo, Gymkhana, Barrel Racing and 4/H.
The arenas at the Pima County Fairgrounds consist of topsoil and sand footing. We utilize the latest in equipment and footing techniques to assure the arenas are safe and ready for each discipline. Arenas are overseen by a Certified Manager of Equine Centers and we have trained Footing Specialist thanks in great part to the League of Agriculture and Equine Facilities.
Equestrian jumps are colorfully painted, maintained year-round and replaced when needed. Stalls are maintained year-round and include 435 indoor stalls and 66 portable stalls. All stalls are cleaned and sprayed with an Ag. wash after each show. Click on link for map and stall charts.
